Postcards

Many of you have been asking where you could see a performance of Alabama Christian Academy's marching band (High Royal Highness thanks you for the interest!). Well, look no more. Journey with the band to Russia, France and Israel during their 2010 award-winning show called Postcards.

Here's a virtual scavenger hunt for you:

  1. Find the hammer and sickle.
  2. Find the Eiffel Tower.
  3. There's an onfield color guard costume change -- see if you can spot it.
  4. Hig Royal Highness makes an appearance in a trio. Keep your eyes peeled (psssttt...he's on the right.)
  5. Watch for a traditional Jewish dance straight out of Fiddler on the Roof (minus the bottles).

Hot as All Get Out

It is a mystery to me -- of a magnitude that rivals the whole 'exactly when dinosaurs inhabited the earth' kind of mystery -- how children do not grasp the please tell me when you are going to be on television concept. Casually mentioning it as you walk out the door does not qualify as telling us to watch the news to see if you are on it.

For those of who are not in the area, or may have missed it because we didn't call because we didn't know to call because we had no concrete time or channel because someone didn't really have a clue......you can watch it here.

And you can view some photos here. Isn't that fella in #12 and #31 just precious?

(Hot as all get out? Watch the video, you'll get it.)

Play That Funky Music, White Boy

We've been culturally enlightened in our family as of late. Whether it was the U.S, premiere of Catcerto by the ACA Wind Ensemble (Cody on euphonium -- you rock, son) or the Montgomery Youth Symphony's annual Mother's Day Concert (Cody on trombone -- you still rock, son), we have heard some amazing music this past week.

Support the arts, people.

Best in Class

More props for the ACA Marching Eagle Band. They won several best in class awards this past weekend, along with the Challenge Cup, at the Southern Hospitality Marching Festival in Hartselle. While it was nice for the kids to be recognized for the entertainment aspect of the show, I think it is just as important to acknowledge the hours and hours of hard work the've put in. Through 95+ degree weather (for 12 hours a day) and pouring rain, they stuck by their commitments and contributed to the success of a first class band program.

Cody was happy to be selected to perform with the ensemble portion of the show. Take a peek below. (For the record, this is the first video I've posted using the new Flip video cam my sweetie bought me last week as a surprise.)

Cinco de Proud Mama

Normally I would have posted about the frozen green beverage I've been known to consume on this date as I commemorate the victory of our neighbors to the south over the French (yahoo to anyone who puts the French in their place!). But today I gotta give props to Cody for some scholastic achievements instead.

Today was Awards Day at ACA and I must say, I was impressed with the way they recognized students and their achievements. Cody was recognized as one of the top three students in the history department. Then tonight at the band banquet he was recognized as Most Improved Band Student for his grade. (I assured him that it was a positive award in recognition of his dedication to be the best he can be and not for going from worst to first...) All kidding aside, he is a great trombone player!

We are proud of you, son!

Back from Visiting Mickey

Cody's back home -- they got in EARLY yesterday morning...and they brought with them trophies for Best in Class for concert band, jazz band, and percussion ensemble. Way to go, y'all!

Off to Orlando

Cody left for Festival Disney tonight (music competition at Walt Disney World). I probably worried him to death with all my reminders, but if you know Cody, there could never be enough reminders. The ACA band competes Friday morning -- both concert band and jazz band. He's excited because he'll be playing with his band director's $2500 trombone. Hope he doesn't let the slide get away from him...

Congrats ACA Band

Congratulations to the Alabama Christian Academy concert band for scoring all ones at the district assessment yesterday. (For all the non former band members following the blog, the possibilities are 1,2 or 3 -- with 1 being the best). They have the opportunity to move forward to the state assessment, but won't because they are preparing for the Festival Disney in Orlando. Cody is in the marching band, concert band, jazz band and pep band at ACA and we are so proud of him!
