Southern Surprise
When I stopped by the Coffee Bean for my morning cuppa java (even though it is wierd buying a cup of coffee at the snow cone place, I just find it too difficult to go next door to Krispy Kreme and come out with only a cup of coffee), I ordered my usual large coffee, two Splendas. Well, the girl must have poured from the wrong pot 'cause when I took my first sip, I discovered the heavenly taste of Southern Pecan coffee...what a nice surprise!

What I Learned from My Son Today
Life is just too dang short to let others mess up your day. Thanks, Cody, for reminding me of that and for reminding me that the whole world doesn't see things, and therefore, doesn't react, the same way I do. Proud of you, man!

Save Some Money
So, most of you know how I love to save a dollar. Or even better yet, get something for nothing or next to it. Two cool promotions I am following right now are from Arby's and Old Navy.
Arby's is the easier of the two: each week on Wednesday (beginning last week and going for 17 weeks) Arby's has a different item of the week that you get for free (well, you have to make a purchase, so its more like buy something, get something extra). Last week the free item was one of their new specialty iced teas. Tomorrow, you can get a free roast burger with purchase. This is supposed to be a company wide promotion, and I can confirm that the Arby's near our house had a sign up!
Now, taking advantage of the Old Navy promotion requires a bit more work. Start by going to http://www.oldnavyweekly.com/. Once there, you just have to click on things...start clicking everywhere. The website is changed weekly (normally on Thursday) and are the offers. You might get a percentage of coupon, or a dollar off coupon, or you could be one of the lucky few (these coupons are much harder to come by) and get a $50 off $100 purchase or even a $75 off $100 purchase. Not sure how long this promotion runs...it has been going on for a couple of weeks now.
Happy hunting!

Happy Mother's Day
My mom is famous for saying, "There ain't a thing in the world you can do about it." So it got me thinking on this Mother's Day of some other things that mothers are always saying. Remember these?
Your face is going to stick like that.
If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it, too?
Close that door; you weren't born in a barn.
Money doesn't grow on trees (or for the current generation, "I am not an ATM!)!
Don't make me come in there!
Life isn't fair.
If you are too full for dinner, you are too full for dessert.
Go ask your father.
Because I said so!
You're bored? Do I need to find you something to do?
Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident.
I don't care who started it, I told you to stop.
Ahhh, the wisdom of mothers.

Who? Huh?
You know you're old when your son's band director announces that the halftime show next year will be the music of Billy Joel and all the parents clap and give a whoop while the students look around at one another wondering who that is.

Cinco de Proud Mama
Normally I would have posted about the frozen green beverage I've been known to consume on this date as I commemorate the victory of our neighbors to the south over the French (yahoo to anyone who puts the French in their place!). But today I gotta give props to Cody for some scholastic achievements instead.
Today was Awards Day at ACA and I must say, I was impressed with the way they recognized students and their achievements. Cody was recognized as one of the top three students in the history department. Then tonight at the band banquet he was recognized as Most Improved Band Student for his grade. (I assured him that it was a positive award in recognition of his dedication to be the best he can be and not for going from worst to first...) All kidding aside, he is a great trombone player!
We are proud of you, son!

I Lost an Arm
I'm not one to boast, but I stomached the veggie hot dogs (with enough veggie chili, they're not all that bad...) and that should give me some sort of privilege to share my news with all -- I lost 13.5 lbs (in the range of an average human arm -- yes, I checked) and 9 inches over the past four weeks and I am thrilled! Something I should have committed to a long time ago, but better late that never. I promise not to give a monthly update but I was so excited when my trainer weighed and measured me that I couldn't not share the news!!
Can't say enough about Curves -- both the workout circuit and the weight management classes.
